This animation
was made from a digital video, filmed using a "Sony PC3" camera, on "night
shot" mode. The greenish hue
is due to the infrared
illumination required for low-light conditions, and the real colour of
the firefly glow is much more yellow.
I used the infrared light source and a torch to flash signals to the firefly
and he/she responded with a series of flashes! The location was in
a valley just outside the city walls of Siena, Italy, during June 2000.
